Seaweed

Japan is a country of seaweed. No other country consumes as many varieties of seaweed as Japan, including Aonori (green seaweed), Konbu (kelp), Wakame (wakame), Hijiki (hijiki), Asakusa Nori (asakusa nori), Tengusa (tengusa), and Tosaka Nori (cockscomb nori). Seaweed, which photosynthesize like land plants, cannot survive in the deep sea where light cannot reach, and instead is found in shallow waters along the coast. As a result, Japan, which is surrounded by sea on all sides, is also a country surrounded by seaweed.
